Q: Is camping allowed?
A: No, we no longer allow camping. Sorry.
Q: Is there really a Bigfoot in The Forty Acre Wood?
A: Yes. BIGFOOT has already been spotted twice this year. BIGFOOT BYPASS is named after the BIGFOOT that hangs around in this vicinity. We urge you to use caution as you approach this area on the map. We had a guest a while back who was using the restroom in the woods by the Old Home Place. While finishing "the job" and putting his toilet paper in the zip-lock bag (as we request our guest to do), he claims he saw BIGFOOT and that BIGFOOT ran off with his backpack. If you happen to find a camouflage backpack while hiking, we ask that you return it to the Office.
Q: Are there any bridges?
A: We just had "Ladybug Bridge" built over Up-Uh Creek (this is our smaller creek). Bridges are expensive and this is a new adventure for us, so we will just have to see how it goes before we invest a larger bridge across Pidget Fork Creek (We hope to put in a swinging bridge one day!!). For now, each crossing should have dry rocks high enough out of the water for you to cross to the other side without getting wet. If we have a huge rain...it may take a day or two for the water to go down, so you may want to keep that in mind before you come explore.
Q: Are kids allowed to play in the creeks?
A: Absolutely! Bring an Eno to hang between two trees and let your kids play as long as they wish. Be careful...the rocks can be slippery. If you are lucky, you will get to see an alligator gar. We've never known of one to bite anyone around here, but we aren't saying it can't happen either. :)
Q: Do you have public restrooms?
A: Yes!! Our new restrooms are open and CUTE! They close from Dec 31-March 1st.
Q: How many miles of trails are there?
A: 3-4 miles
Q: What are the benefits of hiking?
A: Hiking reduces the risk of health issues, promotes mental health, helps you to shape up, and allows you to get out in nature and spend quality time with friends and family!
Q: How many acres do you have?
A: Forty :)
